[Life Sciences Seminar] ▶Subject: Identification of a Novel Transcription Coactivator involved in the CBL9-CIPK1 Signaling Pathway in Arabidopsis ▶Speaker: Prof. Kyung-Nam Kim (Sejong University) ▶Date: 5:00 PM/Apr. 25(Mon.)/2016 ▶Place: Conference Room(#276), Postech Biotech Center *Abctract CIPK1 is known to mediate ABA-dependent stress response by forming a complex with the plasma membrane-localized calcium sensor CBL9 in a calcium-dependent manner. However, it was not clear how the membrane-bound CBL9-CIPK1 complex regulates the expression of stress genes, which occurs in the nucleus. In this study, we report an Arabidopsis novel nuclear protein, designated CANF (CIPK1-Associated Nuclear Factor), which may serve as a messenger molecule relaying the cytoplasmic CBL9-CIPK1 signal into the nucleus. In vivo and in vitro interaction analyses demonstrated that the nuclear protein interacts with CIPK1. A T-DNA knock-out Arabidopsis mutant of the CANF gene displayed hypersensitivity to the salt and drought stresses, whereas it showed reduced sensitivity to exogenous ABA. In addition, expression of RD29B was severely down-regulated in the mutant. We also found that CANF increases expression of the stress gene RD29B through association with a bZIP transcription factor ABI5. Taken together, our results strongly suggest that the CANF protein associating with CIPK1 may act as an ABA-dependent positive regulator in mediating salt and drought stress responses in Arabidopsis ▶Inquiry: Prof. Hwang, Il-Doo (279-2291) * This seminar will be given in English. please refrain from taking photos during seminars. *
